The Academy Awards, also known as the Oscars, are awards presented annually by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, in recognition of excellence in cinematic achievements.They are regarded by many as the most significant awards in the entertainment industry in the United States and worldwide. Before 2001, AMPAS was resistant to the idea of a regular award for animated features, considering there were simply too few produced to justify such consideration. source
